First General Baptist Church of Mattoon

We believe that Christ came for all man, woman, and child. Christ said that, "the harvest is great, but the workers are few" — with this in mind we strive to prepare every person attending our church to be workers equipped for this purpose.

Jesus said, 'Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.'

Supermacy of Christ

We believe that Jesus was fully God and fully man, living a perfect life through the Spirit — therefore the perfect sacrificial lamb. Christ is the author and finisher of our faith, and no one comes to the Father except through the Son.

One and Only God

Our focus in life has to be on God and Him alone.

Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the prophets hang on these two commandments.
